4th International Training Course on Neuroimaging of Epilepsy
We are pleased to announce the 4th INTERNATIONAL TRAINING COURSE ON NEUROIMAGING OF EPILEPSY, which will be held MAY 14-17, 2020 at the Montreal Neurological Institute in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Overall objective. To provide clinicians and scientists with fundamentals and practical skills related to state-of-the-art magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in epileptology.
Target audience. We welcome both participants with and without prior expertise in neuroimaging of epilepsy ( e.g., adult/pediatric neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuroradiologists, neuroscientists, graduate and post-graduate students).
Description. The course combines didactic lectures and small-group tutorials. Internationally renowned Faculty members will cover aspects of acquisition and analysis of both structural and functional MRI, including quality control procedures, visual diagnosis of prevalent epileptogenic lesions, and post-processing methods. They will emphasize the impact of these methods on clinical decision-making.
Format. Morning sessions will consist of lectures given by world-class neuroimagers and epileptologists. In the afternoon, attendees will benefit from hand-on sessions guided by a team of experienced tutors, including image acquisition in the MRI suite, quality control procedures, visual MRI analysis, functional MRI, together with established and cutting-edge diagnostic techniques.
NEW for 2020 - Learning objectives cover the topics of the new ILAE COMPETENCY-BASED CURRICULUM in epileptology [Diagnosis 1.0 - Section 1.5] - Level 1, 2 and 3
*https://www.ilae.org/education/ilae-curriculum*
1. To learn principles of cutting-edge MRI acquisitions (ILAE-Level 2)
2. To decide when perform structural or functional MRI and when to repeat it (ILAE-Level 1)
3. To learn the spectrum of optimal sequences (epilepsy protocols) for structural and functional MRI (ILAE-Level 2)
4. To optimize strategies for the visual detection of epileptogenic lesions, with emphasis on difficult-to-see lesions (so-called “MRI-negative” cases) (ILAE-Level 3)
5. To familiarize with image analysis software tools ( e.g., texture analysis, FSL, fMRIStat) (ILAE-Level 3)
Official course language. English
Venue and logistics. The course will take place at the McConnell Brain Imaging Centre (BIC) of the Montreal Neurological Institute (MNI). The MRI and clinical data of epilepsy cases will be accessible via PC workstations equipped with imaging softwares.
Registration. The course is restricted to 30 attendees. The $900 CAD registration fee includes course material, refreshments and meals (welcome reception, daily breakfast, lunch and beverages, and gala dinner). Please note that the registration fee does not include accommodation, airfares, and other travel expenses.
ILAE Bursaries. Decision for travel grants from the ILAE is pending. Applicants will need to fully register (including payment of registration fee) before applying for an ILAE bursary and indicate, at the time of registration, whether they will need such support or not. If successful, they will be able to request the bursary after completing the course.
