Professor Jean Metzger (Fig. 1) passed away December 11th, 2020, at the age of 99. He was born on April 24th, 1921 in Savigny-en-Sancerre, France, and attended medical school in Paris. He then joined the student French Resistance during World War II, and later received his medical degree at age 30. Student, then suc-cessor, of renowned Professor Herman Fischgold, who was one of the founders and organizers of the French Neuroradiology, he actively worked in the “Clinique Neurochirurgicale de l’Hôpital de la Pitié-Salpêtrière”, the largest Hospital in Paris. He became Physi-cian in Electroradiology in 1952 and obtained the title of University Lecturer in 1964. He became Chairman of the Department of Neu-roradiology of La Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital in 1970. There, with the help of the Polytome, he developed pneumoencephalography, gas myelography and selective angiogram of the internal carotid artery. At that time, as a pioneer and a visionary of Neuroradiology, he was convinced of the unmissable future of the X-ray scanner of the head, which became known worldwide as Computerized Tomogra-phy. Our condolences go to his son, Dr Jacques Metzger, himself an Emergency doctor of the Hôpitaux de Paris, his spouse and their 3 sons, and the rest of his family. Professor Metzger’s students from Latin America, North America and all over Europe mourn an imaginative Master, respected and always loved by his patients and collaborators.
